It is a registered non-governmental and not-for-profit organization in Nepal which aims to promote academic research on Nepal and the Himalaya and has been working in this field since the beginning of 2013. It also functions as an extension of ANHS-US, and an Overseas Research Center (ORC) for the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC).

This event was organized jointly by the Nepal Studies Initiative of the University of Washington and the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies with ANHS Kathmandu Research Center.
KRC, among other things, works to support academic pursuits of individuals and institutions such as research projects, providing home-stays, offering language classes in Nepali and other national languages of Nepal, hosting talk programs on Nepal and the Himalaya by noted Nepali and international scholars.
The center also avails the services of research assistants, translators/interpreters and editors. KRC provides a platform for scholarly work and promotes academic interactions among Nepali and international scholars.
THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The executive committee (EC) have 7 members (However, two members have recently left the country for individual pursuits and therefore, not included in the list). The current EC team:
PARTNERSHIP / COLLABORATION
ANHS-KRC has been collaborating with US Educational Foundation and Fulbright Commission in Nepal, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Himal Kitab, the Social Science Baha, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the College Year in India Program of UW, and the US Embassy in Nepal to run different educational and academic programs.
KRC has supported many Fulbright and other independent scholars since the time of its inception. KRC has recently gotten the Special Edition of the HIMALAYA, i.e. “Gender in the Himalaya” journal printed and published in Nepal.
In collaboration with ANHS-US, KRC has recently disbursed ANHS Nepal Earthquake Relief Award to 9 Nepali NGOs to run educational support projects in the earthquake hit areas of rural Nepal.
